The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Of Nigeria announced increased security measures at its facilities nationwide on Sunday (March 3rd) following a surge in attacks on warehouses. The General Director of NEMA directed Zonal Directors and Heads of Operations to enhance security in and around the Agency’s offices and warehouses across the country to prevent potential breaches. As Nigeria, the largest economy and most populous country in Africa , is grappling with one of its severest economic crises in years, marked by soaring inflation close to 30% and a weakening Naira against the dollar due to monetary policies. Amidst rising hunger concerns, a prominent trade union recently launched protests, urging immediate action to address food shortages, including the opening of all food storage silos nationwide. The decision by NEMA follows an incident in the capital Abuja where residents reportedly raided a facility, including maize bags, highlighting the urgent need for security reinforcement.
